Abstract

Pesantren, as Islamic educational institutions, hold a strategic role in shaping a generation that is knowledgeable, virtuous, and sensitive to the socio-economic dynamics of society. However, the complexity of socio-economic issues, such as inequality, unfair distribution, and materialistic orientations also affects the lives of santri, who are part of the community and will later engage directly with society. Therefore, the Community Service Program (KKN-KPM) team conducted a project at Pesantren ILS Panatagama Putri with the aim of enhancing the santris’ critical awareness of socio-economic problems while introducing the Islamic economic system, particularly the madzhab hamfara, as an alternative solution grounded in Islamic values. The method employed was an interactive focus group discussion (FGD) with a participatory approach. The activity was held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, involving 25 female santri at the intermediate level and six mentors who facilitated three discussion groups. Participants were encouraged to identify the problems they face, reflect on Islamic values as solutions, and present the results of their group discussions. The outcomes indicated an increase in the santris’ active participation, awareness of the connection between daily problems and broader socio-economic systems, as well as a basic understanding of the distinctions between capitalism and the Islamic economic system. Moreover, the activity successfully fostered a sense of togetherness and emotional openness. Thus, this program functioned not only as a medium for knowledge transfer but also as a means of transforming social and spiritual awareness. The activity is expected to strengthen the role of santri as agents of social change in line with Islamic values.
